چکیده

We devise a new algorithm to obtain the pair-connectedness function Per) for continuumpercolation models from computer simulations. It is shown to converge rapidly to the infinitesystem limit, even near the percolation threshold, thus providing accurate estimates of Per) for a wide range of densities. We specifically consider an interpenetrable-particle model (referred to as the penetrable-concentric-shell model) in which D-dimensional spheres (D = 2 or 3) of diameter U are distributed with an arbitrary degree of impenetrability parameter A, O<A< 1. Pairs of particles are taken to be "connected" when the interparticle separation is less than u. The theoretical results of Xu and Stell for Per) in the case offully penetrable spheres (A = 0) are shown to be in excellent agreement with our simulations. We also compute the mean cluster size as a function of density and A for the case of 2D, and, from these data, estimate the respective percolation thresholds.

We use a previously introduced mapping between the continuum percolation model and the Potts fluid (a system of interacting s-states spins which are free to move in the continuum) to derive the low density expansion of the pair connectedness and the mean cluster size. We prove that given an adequate identification of functions, the result is equivalent to the density expansion derived from a co...

Theory of continuum percolation. I. General formalism.

The theoretical basis of continuum percolation has changed greatly since its beginning as little more than an analogy with lattice systems. Nevertheless, there is yet no comprehensive theory of this field. A basis for such a theory is provided here with the introduction of the Potts fluid, a system of interacting s-state spins which are free to move in the continuum. In the s → 1 limit, the Pot...

Finite-Size Scaling in Two-dimensional Continuum Percolation Models

We test the universal finite-size scaling of the cluster mass order parameter in two-dimensional (2D) isotropic and directed continuum percolation models below the percolation threshold by computer simulations. We found that the simulation data in the 2D continuum models obey the same scaling expression of massM to sample size L as generally accepted for isotropic lattice problems, but with a p...

Effect of dimensionality on the continuum percolation of overlapping hyperspheres and hypercubes. II. Simulation results and analyses.

In the first paper of this series [S. Torquato, J. Chem. Phys. 136, 054106 (2012)], analytical results concerning the continuum percolation of overlapping hyperparticles in d-dimensional Euclidean space R(d) were obtained, including lower bounds on the percolation threshold. In the present investigation, we provide additional analytical results for certain cluster statistics, such as the concen...

Series expansions for clustering in continuum-percolation models with interactions

The low-density expansions of the concentration of monomers, dimers, trimers, and the mean cluster size are computed exactly, up through three-body cluster integrals, for a continuumpercolation model of spheres characterized by both exclusion-volume repulsions and shortrange attractions. The compactness of trimers for our model is studied in the dilute limit. Interestingly, the [1,1] Pade appro...
